How to Play?
Chess is a game played by two players, who we'll white and black. It is played on a board of 16 white pieces and 16 black pieces. Each player will have 8 Pawns, 9 Rooks, 2 Knights, 2 Bishops, 1 Queen and 1 King.

Players alternate making moves. white always goes first. In a Typical move, White selects a white piece and moves it to another square is either empty or occupied by an enemy piece. in the latter case the enemy piece is said to be captured. the captured piece is removed from the board, and plays no further role in the game. The main object of the game is to capture a player's King.

However to actually capture the king would be offensive. so this is not allowed. this leads to the notion of check. Black's king is said to be checkmated, and white wins the game. Another way to describe checkmate is to say that Black is in check and black has no legal moves. An alternative outcome is if Black is NOT in check but has no legal moves. Thhis is called a stalemate. when this occurs the game ends in a draw.

KING : a king can move one square in any direction
QUEEN : a queen can move any number of squares in any direction until she hits another piece of the edge of the board
BISHOP : a bishop can move number of squares diagonally until he hits another piece or the edege of the board.
KNIGHT : a knight can move to a square, two square away, as long as that square is not vetitically or horizontally aligned ot its currrent position. A Knight, unlike all other pieces, may, "jump"over other pieces.
ROOK : a rook can move any number of squares horizontally or vertically until he hits another piece or the edge of the board.
PAWN : a pawn can only move 1 square forward. if it's the pawn's first move, he may opt to move 2 squares instead of 1
